I was driving down Cahuenga one afternoon when I saw a crowd gathering around a spot called Fükü Burger. I figured it was just the happy hour crowd, or the inviting open patio with red lights. When I came home, I looked into it a bit. Fükü was originally a food truck (it still is) that roamed the streets of Las Vegas and then took its success to Hollywood as an actual restaurant. They served Japanese style burgers, very addicting fries, and good beer. Killer combination, so I went for myself. And it was really good. I was telling someone this was the year of the burger. I’m glad to have rounded out 2011 with Fükü‘s Tamago burger (patty, crispy onions, teriyaki sauce, wasabi mayo, and fried egg). I’m even more glad to have paired it with their Jazz Garlic Fries that are drizzled in brown gravy and wasabi sauce. Japanese style poutine, say what?
Last night, Jon (KreativeThought of the Rhythm Natives) performed with The Dirty Deuces at The Canyon in Agoura Hills. Both bands reign from the valley, have some musical similarities, share fans and even friends. It was only a matter of time until a collaboration came into play. Jon kick started that by jumping on two songs; he did his verse of Like This over a DD beat, and then did 8 bars from a new song he’s working on…
And here are some of my favorite LA art shows (and pieces) I got to see in the last year:
Art in the Streets, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA
Foundations, Hold Up Art
Cluster Mess, Hold Up Art
Street Cred, Pasadena Museum of California Art
Hold the Line, Honor Fraser
I unfortunately did not travel much in the last 12 months. I generally stayed on the West Coast. I explored Los Angeles more, I did the bay area a few times, rediscovered San Diego, hit Seattle and then Vancouver. Here are some of my favorite pics.
