I had a meeting yesterday in LA’s Arts District, and took time to notice the new JR imagery around the block.
The last time I saw his work in the area was during the Art in The Streets exhibit. His work was posted outside the MOCA Geffen. I think the four that I saw yesterday are from the “Los Surcos de la Ciudad (The Wrinkles of the City)” project. For that, JR encountered some of the oldest inhabitants of Cartagena, Spain. He photographed their wrinkles and the furrows of their brows. They serve as marks of time and traces of their lives that are linked with the history of the city.
He’s one of my favorite artists. For his risks, for his awareness, but especially for his engagement.
