PREP MODE August 6 2012
On our first night in Long Beach for the Agenda Show, we spent some time with Mike and Patrick of Akomplice who were staying in the same hotel as us. They were in full preparation mode for the trade show that would start 12 hours later. Their room had transformed into somewhat of an office - samples were scattered all over, product shots were being taken, fabrics were getting steamed, line sheets were brought to life. This was my first time experiencing something like this. I normally get to Agenda the day of, see booths as they are, and never really think about what goes into the whole process.
Besides getting a lesson in what it takes, we got to preview the upcoming collection before it hit the trade show floor. Quote me now, it’ll be worth the wait. And I’m not saying that because Mike is Eric’s (Backside) BFF, or because the Akomplice team is made up of some of the nicest guys we’ve encountered, or because they allowed me this opportunity for a cool blog post. What they are doing and what they will be doing is nothing short of consistent.

Case in point are these booklets right here. They gave us some to help the spread the word. Inside are previews of the high profile collaboration projects they’ve got themselves into. They include: David Flores, MF Doom, Vernon Davis (!!!!), Fred Segal, and Asics. Each is indicative of their reach; I’ve just mentioned names in the high end fashion, art, music, sports, and sneakers industries.

We left Mike and Pat like this, getting back into the rhythm that we momentarily broke. The next morning we found out that they didn’t even sleep. That life.
